This video from Bob Woods, one of the leading experts on dementia inclusive design and lead editor, highlights the importance of the open-access book we are launching on World Alzheimer’s Day 21 September 2024:
This state-of-the-art commissioned book includes many of the world leading experts on dementia-inclusive design, such as Richard Fleming, Emily Ong, Maggie Calkins, Kevin Charras, Mary Marshall, Hilde Verbeek, Leslie Chalmers, John Zeisel and many more (Click on the book image below for open access link).
The book describes the history of inclusive design, the present state of the art and the future as presented by early career researchers. The chapters discuss inclusive environments, from hospitals and care homes to cities and villages with an emphasis on person-centred design, the evidence base, sustainability and affordability.
The book follows our book on The Chris and Sally house, which discusses evidence-based principles to support independent living at home for people living with dementia, this book can be purchased by clicking on the image below:

A hybrid conference on inclusive dementia design will be held at Loughborough University on the 31st of January, 2025. This conference will include keynotes, lectures, and a poster session, as well as a roundtable to discuss the way forward and possible international collaborations. The conference is sponsored by the Dunhill Medical Trust.
On the 28th of November a hybrid ARUK public and science day is held to highlight some of the research done on Alzheimer’s disease in the Midlands on the prevention, diagnoses and treatment of dementia.
We welcome people living with dementia and interested parties from the public, academics, health, and social care providers, policy makers, architects, and designers.
